About
Recently, the term “landscape ecology” has been disappearing from the scientific literature, and fewer articles explicitly devoted to landscape ecology and using the landscape-ecological approach are being published. This raises a number of questions, such as: Are we dealing with a crisis of landscape ecology? Do we need landscape ecology at all at the moment and why? What is the role of landscape ecology in the contemporary world?
Therefore, the main topic of the international symposium on issues of landscape ecology research in 2027, is:
Why do we need landscape and landscape ecology?
In addition to this main theme, the symposium will also be an opportunity to present and discuss other current topics such as the role of landscape ecology in the restoration of ecosystems and landscapes and their adaptation to global changes, post-transformation landscapes and their development, especially in Central and Eastern Europe, the introduction and use of new tools and models in landscape ecology, education and citizen science for landscapes, art and crafts reflecting landscape and other. Therefore, we invite researchers and experts from all disciplines related to landscape, students, decision-makers, practitioners, and other interested stakeholders to explore and discuss these issues together.
We are proud that the symposium in 2027 also marks two milestones: it will be a jubilee one, the twentieth in a row, and at the same time we will commemorate 60 years since the first symposium, held in 1967. We will be happy to celebrate these milestones together during the 2027 symposium.
